Inspiring Hymns #338

My Prayer

More holiness give me, more striving within; more patience in suff’ring, more sorrow for sin;  More faith in my Savior, more sense of his care; more joy in His service, more purpose in prayer.

More gratitude give me, more trust in the Lord; more pride in His glory, more hope in His word;  More tears for His sorrows, more pain at His grief; more meekness in trial, more praise for relief.

More purity give me, more strength to overcome; more freedom from earth-stains, more longings for home;  More fit for the kingdom, more used would I be; more blessed and holy, more, Savior, like Thee.

Taking the Bull by the Horns {SOCIAL MEDIA/pin}

Does your head spin .. with ideas .. struggling to grasp the practical side of the concept of social media?  Taking the Bull by the Horns, in the {Social Media/pin} category, has been on the blog post calendar for too long without follow through.  There’s only one way to learn sometimes .. just take the bull by the horns and see what happens, right?

Pinterest’s reputation precedes itself.  I don’t know about you, but maybe you’re like me and could use some help understanding how it works.  The pinning is the easy part, as is scrolling through millions of images that overwhelm, many with broken links (for the pinner who looks for original sources).  It is also easy to see that Pinterest promotes whichever pins it chooses.

But what about collecting a significant following, say in the thousands, and having your Pinterest boards and pins promote your blog, driving traffic to your hard work?

Taking the Bull by the Horns .. meaning just go for it, mistakes and all .. may not be in agreement with your personality.  It is not easy for me.  It’s not even easy to say it’s not easy, let alone do, but here we go …

With that in mind, here’s what the pinner should do, at least this is what successful bloggers say you should do.  Yesterday I read some posts on Crystal Paine’s blog Money Saving Mom which tell what she learned in the process of building her blog.  While it was not about Pinterest per se, it is tremendously motivating reading.

4 Tips for Success in Social Media {pin}:

  • Assume a MARATHON MENTALITY – if you want to achieve success, you’re in this for the long haul, and you’d better get your long-distance running shoes on from the get-go.  Blogging is no sprint, my friend.  The race is long, and not easily won.
  • Link up your posts on other blogs.
  • Use Guest posts.
  • Spend as much time sharing your posts as writing them.

Here are 30 Ways to Promote Your Blog Posts from LaunchGrowJoy.

I don’t know about you, but there are many ideas in this infographic that are brand new to me.

What are your favorite ways to promote your blog?

Pinterest is one effective social media platform which bloggers use to promote their posts.  Ruth Soukup has written an ebook How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul , which tells you everything you need to know about blogging for money.  I recommend this book as a resource.  It looks like she’s written and published a few more books since then.Howtoblogforprofitwithoutsellingyoursoul

Ruth blogs successfully at Living Well, Spending Less.  Her backstory is interesting.  She uses Pinterest successfully to promote her blog, also at Living Well, Spending Less.

Crystal Paine is also a successful blogger who uses Pinterest, at Money Saving Mom.  This is the pin which I referenced above which led me to her blog posts about making money blogging.
