5 Steps to a Healthier You {DIY Writing}

Don’t let the title fool you.  This is not about diet and exercise.

It is about health.

And it is for you.

I am writing this for you.

2014 Boston Marathon

Did you watch the Boston Marathon this year?

Have you participated in a marathon?

Have you stood at the start or finish line of a marathon?

I have not participated in one, but I have stood at both the start and finish lines of the Boston Marathon.  I watched the top finishers of the 2014 Boston Marathon live streaming on my laptop.  These photos are screen shots of that race.

One thing I noticed about the runners is their level of fitness for the race.  They are professional runners.  Running is the focus of their lives.  They train year round, consistently day after day, week after week, month after month.

They race often.

When they are not racing, they are training.

They are focused on themselves.

On their own fitness.

On their ability to keep fit and run.

They do not concern themselves with what other runners are doing to train.

They know what they need to do to get themselves fit.

Just like the professional runner, here’s what you can do to gain a healthier you:

        STEP  #1   Focus on you.  Stop comparing yourself to others.

STEP  #2    Keep your eyes on the goal, look forward most of the time.

STEP  #3    Plan ahead and work out.

There was a point in the 2014 Boston Marathon when the front runner turned to look back.

He was checking on the competition.

But most of the time he faced forward, eye on the goal.

As you can see in the photo above, the runner up was right behind him.

Although, the distance between them depends on your perspective.

Just like the runner in front, you can follow these steps toward a healthier you:

#4    Keep moving.  Don’t give up!

#5     Accept praise with humility.

2014 Boston Marathon

The finish of the 2014 Boston Marathon was unique.  It was the first time an American had won in many years.

That was significant because of the bombing at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, preventing many runners from finishing.

It was particularly moving to watch the winner receive his laurel with humility.

The race was no longer about him.  It was about something much bigger.

His humility allowed many to participate in his win.

These are the 5 Steps You Can Take to a Healthier You {DIY Writing}:

  1. Focus on you.
  2. Keep your eyes on the goal.
  3. Plan ahead.
  4. Keep moving.
  5. Accept praise with humility.

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect;

but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended;

but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,

and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:12-14
