The hotel (Ramada Inn) restaurant being closed, reason unknown, I used the internet to find some local food, namely a hoagie shop. How refreshing to enter an independent (non-chain) business which, incidentally, opened the year I graduated from college, about thirty miles from here. Family owned and run, a real deli, real food, without a gimmick. Delish!
Trip advice if you find yourself in or near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania: This link http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g54002-Wilkes_Barre_Luzerne_County_Pennsylvania.html is Trip Advisor’s list of the top places to eat here in Wilkes-Barre, PA. My supper came from #16, a steak and cheese Philly sub with ‘the works’. For breakfast I plan to check out #6 🙂 Hint: First click on the name of the restaurant, then under the name of the restaurant click on either ‘website’ or ‘menu’.
#16’s menu is at this url:http://www.menusnepa.com/philadelphiasubs.html
Looks like Wilkes-Barre has good local food, if not much else 🙂 Here are a few pics from my short walk in the still 95 degrees after 6pm. Bridge over the Susquehanna River, walk along the river, the Ramada Inn (my room is on the top floor), abandoned building with my father’s name on it.
