Almighty, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Holy, Eternal God Who knows all and never changes!
I have an unwritten self-imposed rule not to go online until after morning devotions. Today I chose to do some online Bible study for my devotions, which turned out to be quite interesting.
At the start of every new year I begin reading the Old Testament once again, as has been my habit for more than a decade. I am also working on reviving my memorization of Hebrews 11, which includes the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses).
So this morning my questions were : who was the pharaoh in Egypt when Moses was born? who was the pharaoh when he killed the Egyptian? who was the pharaoh when he led the children of Israel out of Egypt?
The answers are not to be agreed upon by the scholars. In the first place there are two theories known as ‘the early date’ and ‘the late date’ for the exodus.
All that aside, I ended up reading this site: Islamic Awareness: Qur’anic Accuracy vs. Biblical Error: The Kings and Pharaohs of Egypt. It appears to be comprehensive in its information. It presents the ‘evangelical Christian’ view as well as Judaism and historical archaeology. It puts the Egyptian dynasties in a chart format that is easily understood (compared to Wikipedia), and highlights the general consensus by those whose works are cited.
But … at the very end of the comprehensive article, there is this peculiar statement, and I quote:
“These facts that we have mentioned were unknown at the time of the Qur’anic Revelation.”
Oh my, to the Glory of God Almighty, the Omniscient One, Who has all the facts without limit! The authors rather shot themselves in the leg here, with the admission that Mohammed did not have complete information, or for some reason chose to withhold it.
How sad to worship a fallible god of one’s own making. How glorious to worship the Omniscient One, Who not only has all the facts, but loves us and redeemed us from our sin by the sacrifice of His very own Son, Jesus Christ. All this so that I might walk daily in fellowship with the Possessor of heaven and earth!
(By the way, the pharaohs from Abraham to Moses were in up to 13 different dynasties over a period of over 1000 years and 4 different Kingdoms, and 21 different pharaohs!)
On another note, yet still related to the Omiscient One, my books arrived yesterday via the USPS 🙂
The authors both give all glory to Almighty God, and I’m looking forward to reading them both.
We had our first snow yesterday, just a few slippery inches. Here’s the view of the Omniscient One’s artwork, seen from my window.
