More on Lovely Vermont

This picture appears to be a success in the story of the Vermont Flood of 2011.  I’m thinking that it likely saved a few towns from flooding.  It’s amazing to see it in action.  They say it runs into the Deerfield River eventually.

The Glory Hole at Harriman Reservoir in Readsboro, Vermont
You can read about Harriman Reservoir here.  And if you want to read about the glory hole, also called a spillway, Wikipedia has a basic explanation here.
This is not from Vermont, but rather the part of New York which borders both Massachusetts and Connecticut.  It’s the National Weather Service Area Flood Watch, which was issued at 5:48am Sunday, and expired at 2:00am Monday.  Kind of ironic to read it after the fact, and wonder how seriously it was taken at the time.

HURRICANE IRENE WILL TRACK ACROSS NEW ENGLAND TODAY. RAIN WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES ALONG WITH WIND DRIVEN RAIN. WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE LIKELY. LOCALIZED AMOUNTS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE CATSKILLS… BERKSHIRES… LITCHFIELD HILLS AND GREEN MOUNTAINS COULD REACH 10 INCHES. * IF THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OCCUR…SEVERAL MAIN STEM RIVERS WOULD FLOOD…MANY REACHING MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOOD STAGE. FLASH FLOODING WILL ALSO BE A THREAT WHERE PERSISTENT HEAVIER RAIN BANDS OCCUR. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

Now let me share one, well it’s actually two, but the same person, more Vermont thing.  Two websites, one Facebook page.  And if you know me, you’ll understand why this is important.  Don’t know if I can use a picture.  Doors of Vermont and Covered Bridges of Vermont, and Doors and Covered Bridges of Vermont.  Will have to do without the picture.
